How do I work as a counsellor?

I understand that entering therapy for the first time can feel daunting, which is why I create a safe, empathetic environment for counselling based on mutual trust and confidentiality.

I am a Humanistic Counsellor, I believe we are all equal born into different circumstances and that we all have a capacity to grow and change as human beings. The approaches I take in my counselling work are Gestalt, Person-Centred and Transactional Analysis (TA). This means that I bring empathy and honesty to every session, and I will give you unconditional acceptance. I will relate to you with respect as an adult and remain fully present during our counselling sessions in order to support you as you explore your thoughts and feelings. Most importantly, I am a relational therapist and I believe the relationship that we form together throughout your journey through counselling is paramount in order to help you change and improve your life.

What is the counselling process?

Initially, I would have a brief telephone conversation with you to discuss your reasons for embarking on counselling and at this time we can arrange an appointment for your first counselling session at my Fulham practice.

The first time we meet, I will ask you to text me when you arrive in reception and I will meet you there personally to help put you at ease. During the first few sessions I will conduct an assessment and we will aim to agree on an approximate length and goals of our counselling work together. However, none of this is set in stone. As time goes on, your goals may change and the amount of time it takes to reach these goals may change, too.

How often will I see you for counselling?

I will see you weekly at my Fulham practice, preferably at the same time each week. In long-term work, I would expect to see you for at least 40 weeks of the year. I do not charge for holidays and I would let you know well in advance when I go on breaks. If you need to cancel an appointment, I require 48 hours’ notice.

Where am I located?

I work from Hurlingham Studios, Ranelagh Gardens, Fulham, SW6 3PA, which is a one-minute walk from Putney Bridge tube station, and easy to reach from Putney, Chelsea and Kensington. My practice is also on the number 22 bus route from Chelsea.
